It is hard to believe that the four guys from Vacaville, California, who call themselves Papa Roach have been together for 20 years.
Banded together since 1993, the rock group Papa Roach, is named after one of the founding members step-grandfather , who was called Papa and his last name was Roatch.
Jacoby Shaddix, Jerry Horton, Dave Buckner, and Tobin Esperance are the energetic alternative metal band , Papa Roach, who did not see mainstream success until the early turn of the century, with the release of the triple platinum Lp , Infest. (April 25th 2000)
The Milwaukee Rock Examiner was scheduled to interview Tobin Esperance (bass guitar, rhythm guitar, backing vocals, composition ) on January 25th, 2013. The Wisconsin ice storm prevented the interview , but resulted in a photo pass and a review for the show at The Rave, with Otherwise , and Stone Sour. An interview is in the works at a later date.
Arriving at The Rave at about 7:35 , after an hour parking ordeal. Resulting in missing the anticipated opening band,Otherwise from Las Vegas, who are running up the charts with their military themed anthem , "Soldiers," and the ultimate break up song, "I Don't Apologize."
It is a concert custom to stand panting at the stage waiting for the band to start.Eyes gaze ahead, roars of Papa Roach, Papa Roach, cry out, yet nothing.
Then suddenly, like the arrival of a cosmic space-ship, out of the sky, Papa Roach is on the stage. Literally, no tapestry falling, not one single hint of the the four guys preparing to start. Papa Roach's stage entrance was something I have never experienced before. I still do not know how they achieved such a surprise entrance. I intend to ask Tobin, when I interview him.
I ran to the photo pit, and within seconds I was standing below the 6 foot high stage, looking up at Jacoby Shaddix , (lead vocals) as he has the crowd in a frenzy, and singing "Still Swinging," right along with him. I was actually so close to Jacoby that I had to back up to get his entire body on the camera viewer. (see video)
From the first song to the encore , which included fan favorite , Lifeline, Papa Roach impressed and pleased the crowd with Jacoby's vocals perfectly pitched and in range.
Tobin, rocked the bass, always fast and amped to keep up with his front man , who has so much energy, he appears to be super-charged.
Jerry Horton's guitars were more controlled and consistent , but still full of the Papa Roach quality ultra sonic sound.
Tony Palermo's drum kit was placed high on an angle, making him very hard to see, but you could for sure, hear the intense percussion that is the backbone of all things Papa Roach.
Five Stars is not even enough to rate the performance Papa Roach gave The Rave in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday January 25th. I rate the show the best I have ever seen for crowd participation and nothing but rocking fun and amazing musical talent.
Corey Taylor of Slipknot, led his band Stone Sour for the final band of the night.
Corey was not a fan of the camera and flipped me the middle finger , staying true to his hard core roots. It was all in good fun and just part of a rocked-out and wild night.
See Stone Sour tear up The Rave, included in video.
Papa Roach is on tour promoting the new Lp, which is about addiction , recovery, lost love, and regaining ones self, according to Papa Roach interviews.
